Wei Mei (梅 伟 in Chinese) is a postdoctoral scholar, working with Prof. Shang-Ping Xie, in Climate, Atmospheric Sciences, and Physical Oceanography (CASPO) at Scripps Institution of Oceanography, University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
He studies tropical cyclones with a focus on interactions with the ocean and climate control. He is also interested in atmospheric, ocean and climate dynamics, and climate variability, extremes and change. He makes use of a combination of observations, numerical modeling, and theory.
Wei received a B.S. in Atmospheric Science from Nanjing University in China in 2004 and a Ph.D. in Earth System Science from the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) in 2012. He started his postdoctoral research at Scripps in December 2012, two days after his completion of studies in Irvine.
He received numerous fellowships from Nanjing University and UC Irvine. His study and research between 2010 and 2012 were partially supported by the Earth and Space Science Fellowship from NASA.
