One of the greatest challenges of the 21st century is managing our deep ocean sustainably, for it is vast, remote, expensive to study, and highly vulnerable to disturbance. Exploiting its wealth while maintaining the integrity of its ecosystems, their diversity, functions and services will require a cross-disciplinary conversation and interdisciplinary research at the intersection of biodiversity, climate science, law, policy, and resource economics as well as stakeholder engagement. DOSI exists to facilitate these activities.

DOSI seeks to integrate science, technology, policy, law and economics to advise on ecosystem-based management of resource use in the deep ocean and strategies to maintain the integrity of deep-ocean ecosystems within and beyond national jurisdiction.
