Keith Blackmon

Keith Blackmon

Research Assistant

Keith Blackmon graduated from UCSD in 2011 with a B.S. in Earth Sciences - this is when he first became interested in Geochemistry. He has been working in the Fluids and Volatiles Lab as a Research Assistant since February 2012.  Keith operates and maintains mass spectrometers in the lab as well as preparing for and participating in field expeditions

Tyler Evans

Tyler Evans

SIO Graduate Student (MS)

I am a geochemist and hydrogeologist interested in how fluids and volatiles act within groundwaters along fault boundaries. Currently, I am working on helium and carbon isotope systematics along the Southern San Andreas Fault Zone. I have travelled to Ethiopia and around southern California with Prof. Hilton to collect groundwater and hot spring samples.  I also have done extensive field work with the US Geological Survey collecting groundwater samples. I graduated from UC San Diego with a B.S. in Earth Science in 2011.

Saemi A Halldorsson

Saemi A Halldorsson

SIO Graduate Student (PhD)

I am a geochemist and petrologist with strong interests in understanding the driving forces of magmatic activity in active volcanic systems, particularly oceanic islands, continental rifts and subduction zones. Ihave been a member of the Fluids and Volatiles Lab at SIO since fall 2008 where I have been working with Prof. Hilton on volatiles in mantle-derived rocks and fluids, primarily by using isotope geochemistry, from contrasting tectonic settings around the globe.

Bina Patel

UCSD Undergraduate Student

I am a fourth year undergraduate majoring in Earth Science with a track in
geochemistry. I am currently learning about the volatile systems
associated with the Central American volcanic arc with a focus in Costa
Rica.

Jerusalem Smith

SIO Graduate Student (MS)

I am from Glendale (L.A. area), and completed my
B.S. in Environmental Systems Earth Sciences at UCSD. Currently I am
studying for my M.S. in Earth Science at SIO, and my research
involves determining He concentrations and isotope ratios in basalt
samples from the East African Rift System.

Cristian E Virrueta

Cristian E Virrueta

UCSD Undergraduate Student

I am a third year undergraduate at UC San Diego and a San Joaquin Valley native. I am currently pursuing my B.S. in Earth Science (Geology). I have been awarded a McNair Fellowship to work on a research project studying the carbon isotope characteristics of methane (and other hydrocarbons) associated with geothermal fluids.
